“as long as you try, it’s alright.” Greg sighed, taking her hand in his. “The fact that you’re depressed doesn’t affect how I feel about you, I’m willing to be in a relationship with you.” He fidgeted and sighed again. “I have a friend who used to cut.” Greg bit his lip as it started trembling. “it really hurt me to see him so upset all the time, I cared so much about him.” He sighed. “I was so relieved when he lost the craft knife that he used, because at that moment he promised himself and me that he’d never do it again. And so he found other ways to deal with it.” Greg paused to steady his breathing. “He told me he’d take a really hot bath, or scratch his arms instead. He even went to the therapist to get help.”

Greg squeezed her hand gently as he inhaled and exhaled. “You don’t need to go to the therapist if you don’t want to. I’ll tell you the method that was best for him. What he’d do, was he’d get a tight rubber band around his wrist and pull it and let go when he had the urge to cut. it hurt but worked for him.” Greg pulled Eleanor into a side hug and let a very faint smile take over his features. “Of course.” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with you, you’re perfect to me.”

Greg rubbed her back and sighed. “It’ll all be okay, soon, I swear.” He bit his lip. “But please, promise me you’ll try to stop yourself from cutting, from trying to commit suicide, don’t let the depression take over.” He tried to give a small smile. “Always be positive, it’s the most important thing to do. Don’t pay attention to the bad, try to distract yourself from it.”

Greg bit his lip as he gently touched the scars on her arm. He looked her in the eyes for a while and pulled her into a light hug. “it’s okay.” He murmured into her hair. “But what’s causing you to do this?” he asked, letting go of the hug, one of his arms still around her. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.” he said reassuringly.

Greg gently shushed Eleanor. “Listen, I’ve not known you all that long, but I really like you, and I’d love to date you, but is something bothering you?” Greg shuffled a bit. “You can tell me anything, now, or if you’re not ready, whenever. I’m here for you. If you don’t want to date me, that’s fine, I just want to know what’s wrong.” he said with a quiet soothing voice, putting his hand over hers.

After a while, Greg slowly, and quite reluctantly, pulled away from the kiss. He looked into Eleanor’s eyes for a second then looked away, scratching his neck. “urm.. s-sorry…” he mumbled quietly as his cheeks turned a deep shade of pink.

Greg felt blood rush to his cheeks as he smiled, probably blushing like an idiot. He let his fingers play around with her hair, not knowing what to say. As he was caught up in her eyes, Greg found himself slowly leaning in.

Greg looked down and smiled shyly at Eleanor, glad that his move didn’t make everything all awkward and that she was okay with it. “Can I just mention, you’re absolutely beautiful.” he said quietly.
